A Skylit Drive: European Tour

May 14, 2009

Hurling their post hardcore/screamo sound, A Skylit Drive will be captivating fans with not only an album release, but also a heavily anticipated European tour this fall, which will kick off November 4 in Berlin and wrapping up November 15 in Glasgow, Scotland.

A Skylit Drive

A Skylit Drive

Spending last winter in the studio with producer Casey Bates (Chiodos, Pierce The Veil), A Skylit Drive is excited to release “Adelphia.” This album will be the follow up to vividly successful  LP “Wires… And The Concept of Breathing”, and is set to release on June 8 in  Europe.  Singer, Michael “Jag” Jagmin, describes this album as “more  personal and musically intricate and we’re very happy with the way it turned out.”

After nearly two years of solid touring with bands like Chiodos, Escape The Fate, Silverstein, August Burns Red, Alesana, Breathe Carolina, and Attack Attack!, they’re eager and equipped to jolt to Europe, having never traveled overseas.  ” We are so excited to go to Europe for the first time and to play in front of our fans there.  It has been a fun and crazy experience trying to pull everything together including our passports,” says vocalist Michael ” Jag” Jagmin.

A Skylit Drive is fresh off the road from the ravenous Artery Foundation Tour and have a busy summer ahead having earned one of three co-headlining spots on the SmartPunk Stage for the 2009 Warped Tour. Alternative Press Magazine recognized their heart for touring  and featured A Skylit Drive as one of the “100 Bands You Need to Know in 2009.”

STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB TAKE NYC BY STORM

STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB TAKE NYC BY STORM
* FIRST SINGLE “100 LITTLE CURSES” ADDED AT KROQ

DEBUT ALBUM OUT JUNE 16th

TOUR WITH NINE INCH NAILS & JANE’S ADDICTION STARTS TONIGHT
* NATIONAL TV DEBUT JUNE 17TH ON LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON

Street Sweeper Social Club pictureStreet Sweeper Social Club, the new band unifying Tom Morello and Boots Riley, took NYC by storm this week playing two surprise, impromptu shows at small clubs. Tuesday night, SSSC took the stage before a packed house at The Roots sold out jam session at Highline Ballroom and Wednesday SSSC rocked Kenny’s Castaways in the West Village. Regarding the Highline Ballroom performance, Rolling Stone.com stated that SSSC are “…its own foot-stomping, teeth gnashing beast.”  Their debut self-titled album of self-described “revolutionary party jams” is out June 16th through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. The 11-song set was produced by Tom Morello and features Boots Riley on vocals, Morello on guitar and bass, and Stanton Moore (Galactic) on
drums. SSSC’s debut tour with Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction kicks
off tonight in West Palm Beach, FL.

SSSC is set to make their national TV debut Weds, June 17th on Late
Night w/Jimmy Fallon. The band’s first single, “100 Little Curses” just
landed at radio with a huge buzz. KROQ/LA, 91X/San Diego, KFMA/Tucson
and KJEE/Santa Barbera are all in early, with the official add day
coming next week. Tom & Boots will be hosting MTV2’s “Rock The Deuce”
Saturday, June 20th. The video for “100 Little Curses” will debut on
that show as well. Also look for SSSC to be featured on MTV’s “The Drop”
week of release.

Tom Morello is a founding member and guitarist of the rock bands Rage
Against the Machine and Audioslave.  The two bands are responsible for
multiple Grammy Awards and a combined 30 million albums sold worldwide.
Morello has also received critical acclaim as a solo artist known as The
Nightwatchman.  Widely celebrated for his unique voice as a master
electric guitarist, he is recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of
the “100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-Time (#26).” He is also one of
only two guitarists featured as a playable animated character in the
overwhelmingly popular Activision video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of
Rock. Tom Morello graduated from Harvard University with honors as a
Political Science major and has been a widely recognized political
activist throughout his career. With System of a Down’s Serj Tankian,
Morello formed Axis of Justice, an organization whose purpose is to
bring together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political
organizations to fight for social justice.

Boots Riley is best known as the leader of The Coup, the seminal Hip-Hop
group from Oakland, CA.  As a producer and lyricist, Riley has crafted
critically acclaimed albums for The Coup that have graced the year-end
Top 10 lists of Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Los Angeles
Times, and more.  They have also received “Album of the Year” honors
from The Washington Post, Time Out New York, while Billboard Magazine
declared the group “the best hip-hop act of the past decade.”  Born in
Chicago and raised in East Oakland’s Funktown neighborhood, Boots became
a teenage community organizer.  From his history of student organizing
in Oakland’s public schools, serving on the central committee for the
Progressive Labor Party, being the President of Youth InCar (Youth
International Committee Against Racism), organizing to build
California’s Anti-Racist Farm Workers’ Union, to developing “guerrilla
hip hop concerts” (mobile concerts on flatbed trucks), Boots Riley has
been an integral part of the progressive struggle for radical change
through culture.

CHEAP GIRLS LIKE CHEAP DRINKS
Paper + Plastick Re-Release Cheap Girl’s Debut
Find Me A Drink Home on June 23rd

Lansing, MI – No one sent the memo to the members of Lansing’s CHEAP GIRLS stating that the 90’s are over. With a sound that is as much a throw back to bands such as Lemonheads, Superchunk and Old 97’s as it is fresh, Cheap Girls are ready to bring their rock to the U.S. and U.K this Spring. Beginning May 11th, the trio head overseas for two-weeks on their first foreign tour. When they arrive back in the states, Cheap Girls have a handful of US shows confirmed, which include select Vans Warped Tour dates (see all tour dates below).

Gainesville, FL-based Paper + Plastick Records (an all vinyl/digital label owned by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Fiorello) will ring in the summer with style by re-releasing Cheap Girls’ debut, Find Me A Drink Home, on June 23rd on 12-inch vinyl and digitally through www.paperandplastick.com only. “Buzzing guitars, earnest vocals, and relatable lyrics are what fuel Cheap Girls’ energetic debut effort,” raves ABSOLUTEPUNK, adding “Cheap Girls’ album… [is] a breath of fresh air and a welcome listen to those who loved the raw and sloppy tendencies of 90’s indie and alternative.”

After recording most of Drink… in a cabin in northern Michigan in under a week with Rick Johnson (of Mustard Plug and Bomb! The Music Industry), Cheap Girls enlisted Johnson again to work on the new album, entitled My Roaring 20’s. Set for release this Fall on P+P, bassist/vocalist Ian Graham says “I’m really excited to see how people respond to what we’ve been doing between records.”

Cheap Girls is Ian Graham (bass/vox), brother Ben Graham (drums) and Adam Aymor (guitar).

BURN HALO Set to Release Debut

January 8, 2009

January 7th, 2009:
When one door closes, another one opens.  This couldn’t be more true for former 18 Visions singer/songwriter James Hart.  When the Orange County, CA band broke up in 2007 after almost a decade together, that didn’t dissuade Hart and his pursuit to be a frontman once again.  He’s ready to get back to it with his new band, BURN HALO, who will be releasing their charismatic self-titled debut March 10 on Rawkhead Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).

Burn Halo

Burn Halo

The album’s first single, “Dirty Little Girl,” which features a guest appearance by Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates, is already getting spins on radio stations around the country, and is in regular rotation on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s “Octane” station.  A video for the track was recently shot in at the Slide Bar in Orange County, CA with Nate Weaver (Against Me!, Taking Back Sunday) at the director’s helm, and will hit the TV and Internet airwaves within the coming weeks.

Anyone who was watching the Dallas Cowboys/Baltimore Ravens football game on the NFL Network on Saturday, December 20 might have heard another song from the album, “Our House,” during the broadcast.  The track will also be heard during a recap of the college football season for “College Football Now” on the NFL Network, which will air this week and weekend, and will be streamed simultaneously on the station’s website (www.nfl.com/nflnetwork).  Fans should check local listings for details.

Never losing momentum after the break-up, Hart landed a label deal with Island/Def Jam and began working almost immediately with songwriter Zac Maloy on what would eventually become BURN HALO’s debut album.  Between May and October of 2007, Hart made week-long treks to Tulsa, OK to write and demo with Maloy.  “I knew that I wanted a clear-cut rock ‘n’ roll band, which is something I had not had in the past,” Hart says of the music.  “My vision and my brand of rock ‘n’ roll without having to compromise on any of the songs or any of the material.  I wanted to make a very straightforward rock album, something that had commercial appeal, but also something that had a classic, vintage mid-‘80s throwback vibe to it.”

Hart recorded the album from October to November of 2007 with Maloy as producer, laying down the tracks with an army of skilled studio musicians, including Nickelback drummer Daniel Adair, former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, guitarist Neil Tiemann (who now tours with “American Idol” winner David Cook), and Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates (who appears on the “Dirty Little Girl” and “Anejo”).

In the studio, Maloy was particularly helpful in getting the best possible vocal performance out of Hart.  As he explains, “I really felt like he was able to grasp what I wanted to do and where I wanted to take this.  From a producer standpoint I feel like he really knocked it out of the park.  As a vocalist he was able to bring a lot out of me instead of having me go through the motions and just get the part right, emoting a little more than I have in the past.  He was really able to pull a lot of character out of my voice.”

“I think this is a real statement album for me,” Hart continues. “Anyone who is familiar with me and my past is going to be able to get this record.  They’re going to understand why I made this record and that this is the record I’ve been wanting to make.”

After the album was completed in early 2008, Island/Def Jam elected not to release it, leaving Hart with the tough job of finding a new home for his project. Nothing felt quite right, though, so BURN HALO’s manager Bret Bair formed his own label Rawkhead Rekords and partnered with Warner Music Group to release the record.  Hart spent much of 2008 finalizing the line-up of his touring band–which he hopes will help write and record BURN HALO’s next albums–with Aaron Boheler on bass, Joey Sin on lead guitar, Allen Wheeler on rhythm guitar, and Ryan Folden on drums.

BURN HALO’s new ensemble has already been racking up tour dates with bands such as Avenged Sevenfoldand their next jaunt will be with Escape The Fate and Black Tide starting February 5 in Pomona, CA.  A summer tour is already in the works and should be announced in the coming weeks.

RED Announces Initial 2009 Tour Dates

January 8, 2009

Grammy-nominated modern rock band RED has already garnered airplay across the country–weeks before its official release to radio–for their single “Death Of Me” from their INNOCENCE & INSTINCT album, due out February 10 via Essential Records/Red Distribution.

Jeremy McKnight

Red photo by: Jeremy McKnight

The song–which combines a soulful urgency with crunchy guitars, gorgeous strings and a powerhouse chorus–debuts on the R&R Active Rock chart at #39 and has received early adds at stations including: KILO/Colorado Springs, WILL/Chicago, KHTQ/Spokane, WRUF/Gainesville, WXQR/Greenville, KBRE/Merced, KEYJ/Abilene, KFMX/Lubbock, KRQR/Chico, WPRX/Cape Cod, KUPD/Phoenix, WJJO/Madison, KXFX/Santa Rosa, WXRX/Rockford and KZZQ/Salt Lake City.

“The song is really a regretful introspective moment, where you realize that your own actions have led you down a path you never wanted to take,” says guitarist Anthony Armstrong. “You’re the one who keeps tearing yourself down in some kind of vicious cycle that never seems to end.”

After a brief break at home for the holidays, RED–known for their relentless touring and riveting live shows–return to the road for a January 23 show in Beaumont, TX, followed by a string of dates in February.  Catch RED–JASEN RAUCH (guitars), MICHAEL BARNES (vocals), ANTHONY ARMSTRONG (guitar) and RANDY ARMSTRONG (bass)–on tour in the following cities and go to www.myspace.com/dropofred for current band updates.  Look for additional tour dates to be announced soon.

About RED

Nashville-based RED made an immediate impact with its 2006 debut, End of Silence, which sold more than a quarter-million copies and earned several awards and nominations. The Grammy-nominated disc–featuring the radio hits “Breathe Into Me” (Top 10, Active Rock), “Let Go” (Top 15, Active Rock) and “Already Over” (Top 15, Active Rock)–introduced the sonic layering, rich orchestration and visceral dynamics that became RED’s signature sound. The album steadily built momentum, cracking the Billboard Top 200 a year after its release. Not surprisingly, the album became a hit with other bands as well, leading to tours and shows with Papa Roach, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, Buckcherry, Puddle Of Mudd, Staind and Seether, among others.

Less Than Jake had a great 2008 with press dousing positive praise on both their new album GNV FLA and their raucously fun headlining tours. The re-releases of four of their earlier records with added material received plaudits of equal enthusiasm. And with big as-yet-unannounced plans already in motion for 2009, they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon!

EQUAL VISION RECORDS SIGNS THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

This Time Next Year
This Time Next Year

NOV 18 – Equal Vision Records is proud to welcome THIS TIME NEXT YEAR to its roster. The band – vocalist Pete Dowdalls, guitarist/vocalist Brad Wiseman, guitarist Denis Cohen, bassist Tony Allio, and drummer Aaron Seminoff – is set to record their debut full length with producer Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Senses Fail, Thrice) at the top of 2009.

Listing Saves The Day, New Found Glory, and The Movielife as major influences, THIS TIME NEXT YEAR has released two EPs – A Place For You in 2007, The Longest Way Home in 2008 – on indie DIY labels Escapist Records and Run For Cover Records (respectively). With several full US tours under their belt, the five-piece has shared the stage with many of the scene’s current pop-punk heavyweights including Cartel, Set Your Goals, and Four Year Strong.

Earlier this year, AbsolutePunk listed the band as one of their “Absolute 100”, citing “They are the ultimate summer pop punk band of the late part of this decade.”

On the decision to sign with Equal Vision Records, Wiseman explained “EVR believes in us as much as we believe in ourselves and that’s all we can ask for. Since day one they have shown a strong sense of belief in this band and have welcomed us with open arms into what we are proud to call our new home. We are extremely grateful of all they have done so far and all that’s to come in the new year.”
